FOOTBALL: A SHARE OF THE CONFERENCE TITLE

The Hornets took a share of the SCFA National Southern Conference Championship on Saturday with a convincing 59-27 victory at home over Golden West College.

The Rustlers took advantage of a couple of Hornet miscues in the first quarter that allowed a pair of field goals by Quinton Conaway. With GWC up 6-0, with 3:21 left in the first, Fullerton finally got on the board on a 20-yard TD strike from QB Jordan Hoy to Justin Walker.

By the end of the first quarter the game seemed like it might be a close one as FC held a thin 7-6 lead over the Rustlers. Then the second quarter happened... and Fullerton gave it to GWC hanging 31 unanswered points on them. By halftime the score was 38-6.

The second was all Hornets as they completely controlled the pace and outcome of the game. Golden West did manage to take advantage of some FC mistakes scoring points, but the game was well at hand in Fullerton's favor.

FC ended the regular season in grand fashion going 9-1 overall and 4-1 in conference. Their only loss came at the hands of Saddleback College, who lost to Golden West 20-17. Saddleback's 28-21 defeat of Orange Coast College now gives the Gauchos and Hornets a share of the Southern Conference title.

Hornet QB Jordan Hoy had another remarkable game throwing 4 touchdowns passes for 332 yards with no interceptions. Hoy also rushed for a touchdown and had 25 yards on 7 carries. He is now second in the state with 32 total touchdown passes. Jorge Reyna of West LA College leads the state with 39.

Wideout DeAndre McNeal had a big day for Fullerton with 5 catches for 132 yards and 1 touchdown. Justin Walker had a big day with 3 catches for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns. Asante Wilder also added 3 catches for 76 yards.

On the ground for the Hornets, Anthony Wood led the way with 5 carries for 69 yards. Phillip Butler had 11 carries for 54 yards, and Kentavious Thomas had 4 carries for 30 yards.

For the defense, FC's DB Tim Gordon and LB Justin Parcells were leaders in tackles with 7 each. Parcells also added 2 quarterback hurries. D-end Tyler Stepney had 6 tackles and a sack for a 6-yard loss.

Up Next: The #1 Hornets (9-1 overall) will host #4 Ventura College (8-2) at Yorba Linda High School on Saturday, November 19th. Kickoff will be 1:00 pm.
