FOOTBALL: AND STILL UNBEATEN…

FOOTBALL: AND STILL UNBEATEN…

The Hornets went into their final game of the season at home against Mount San Antonio with a chip on their shoulder as they won in a high-scoring affair 53-43.

The game became a score-fest right from the opening kickoff when Mt. SAC's Chris Jackson ran the ball back 98-yards for 6 points (failed PAT).

Fullerton would not be outdone as they went on to score a touchdown on their next three possessions. QB Gresch Jensen ran the ball in from 27 yards out, Dennis Houston crossed the goal line on a reverse from the 4-yardline, and QB Quinn Commans scored on a run from the 9-yardline.

With the Hornets up 21-6 at 3:35 in the first quarter, the Mounties got back on the scoreboard on a 4-yarder by running back Malaki Thomson.

The FC offense sputtered on their next drive, but the defense made up for it at 13:01 in the second quarter when linebacker Peter Kazibwe intercepted the ball taking it back 41-yards for a pick six.

FC added to their lead on the very next drive scoring on a 2-yard TD run by Lucky Avinger.

Mt. SAC closed out the first half scoring a 1-yard touchdown by QB Dylan Flenniken, and then hit a 28-yard field goal by Gabriel Dunkle. The score was 36-23 at halftime.

At 14:11 in the third quarter, Jensen tossed a pass to Jawaun Johnson who streaked down the sideline 60-yards to pay dirt.

Fullerton put 50 on the board at 5:52 in the third quarter on a 14-yard TD run by Jaire Moore.

The Mounties made a final push to get back in the game on Hykeem Massey's pretty 27-yard grab in the end zone (59 secs. third quarter).

FC put up their last points on a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter (10:34) by Alex Moreno.

Down 53-30, Mt. SAC hit the Hornets with two more TD scores. Flenniken ran the ball in from 10 yards out, and Jacob Hennie caught a 7-yard pass from Flenniken. The late TDs cut their deficit down to 10 points with 2:40 left in the game.

The Mounties attempted an onside kick and failed as Tim Allen snagged the ball out of the air for FC. From there, Fullerton iced the game and went into victory formation.

The Fullerton College football program has gone through some adversity this season, but that should not take away from the success of our student-athletes who have put in so much time in the classroom, the gym, and on the field in order to do something positive with their lives. It was a fantastic 2018 season where no team beat the Hornets on the field of play.
