GAME TWO FC CLASSIC: KNIGHTS & HORNETS JOUST

GAME TWO FC CLASSIC: KNIGHTS & HORNETS JOUST

No. 3 Fullerton came up short in game two of the FC Classic falling to No. 4 San Diego City College 86-77.

Prior to the game a celebration was held honoring the 2023 state championship team (banner unveiling) and FC Hall of Famer Edgar "Bean" Clark, who led the Hornets to two state titles (1961 basketball and 1961 track & field). A basketball scholarship in Clark's name has been created to help future FC student-athletes. Fullerton College President Dr. Cynthia Olivo, and Vice President Dr. Gilbert Contreras were on hand for this momentous event, along with FC Hall of Famers Edgar Clark, Bill Morris, Chris Smith, and Nick Fuscardo. If you would like to play a significant role in the success of future Hornets, you can donate to the Edgar Clark "Character of A Man" Scholarship" by clicking here.

As for the big matchup between two of the best teams in the state, the Hornets (7-3 overall) fell behind 13-4 in the opening minutes with the Knights (9-2) hitting their first three three-point shots. In fact, San Diego came out hot shooting 58.3% (7-12) from beyond the arc in the first half with FC shooting 37.5% in total from the floor. By the time the smoke cleared, Fullerton found itself in a 47-33 hole by halftime.

It got worse before it got better for FC in the second half as San Diego City strong-armed its way to a 20-point lead by the twelve-minute mark at 62-42. Running a full-court press, the Hornets did their best to climb back in the game pulling within 7 points (84-77), but with 30 seconds left in regulation there simply was not enough time to pull off a comeback win.

San Diego owned the boards out-rebounding Fullerton 38-21 and outscored the Hornets 14-0 on second chance points.

Jeremiah Davis worked hard scoring a game-high 22 points with 6 rebounds. Christian Watson and Amound Anderson II both scored 14, while Jaden Byers put up 10 points.

Up Next: The No. 3 Hornets (7-3 overall) will take on Southwestern College this Saturday night (Dec. 9) in the Nest for the third and final game of the 37th FC Classic. Tipoff is at 5:00 pm.
