MEN'S SOCCER: BRIAN MARTINEZ SIGNS WITH LA VERNE

It has been a long road for standout sophomore Brian Martinez who signed a scholarship with the University of La Verne.

The two-time All-Orange Empire Conference 2nd team player was not even on the team as an incoming freshman. He was a struggling student who did not have soccer at the forefront of his mind. After taking Coach Aviles' P.E. soccer course, Martinez gave it some thought on joining the Hornet program but declined. After some convincing by Coach Aviles that Martinez has what it takes to be successful student-athlete, Brian decided to play for FC.

Known as an excellent defender, Martinez led the Hornet defense the past two seasons holding opposing teams to 4 shutouts this season and a program record-setting 12 in 2018.

"I first met Brian in my PE 189 soccer class when I was a new hire at Fullerton College. He was struggling to stay in school not attending all the time. After a two years of talking to him on campus, Brian finally agreed to join us on the FC soccer team. It changed his whole life around after he bought in to the program. I am so very proud of his accomplishments on and off the field. He is one of the reasons why I love doing what I do", Hornet Head Coach Greg Aviles.

Martinez will join fellow FC alumni and current Leopard starters Kevan Rehmani and Anthony Ferrigno.
