The women's Cross Country team opened up their 2017 season in Oceanside competing in the Palomar Invitational and finished third out of eight teams posting 110 points.

Sophomore, Cassidy Nyenhuis was the first runner for the Hornets and behind her was freshman Maricruz Vargas.

"I felt great for the first two miles of my race", claimed Nyenhuis.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Holt finished third women for the team. She was able to keep freshman Jessica Garcia in sight and caught up with her in the last mile and pulled her across the finish line for the fourth runner.

Running close together we're freshmen, Diana Valdovinos and Sydney Castaneda rounding out the top fifth and sixth runners respectively. The seventh runner was Daniela Hernandez, another sophomore to complete the team's count.

"This first competition was much needed as the ladies have been training and needed to evaluate themselves. This is a good start to the season", Head Coach Gina Bevec.

The FC men's team opened up the season running in the four mile race finishing in fifth place out of eleven teams (171 points).

This years batch of Hornets is compiled of all freshmen and one sophomore Brian Grande. Grande ran out in front and paced himself in the top 20 runners. Running 30 seconds behind him was Hayden Ritchie. Andrew Fernando and Bryan Ramirez were only two seconds apart from one another as they crossed the finish line. Ryan Sheatz was the fifth man just 25 seconds behind Bryan. Erick Hernandez and Ian Sanders were the sixth and seventh man for the team's overall strength.

"These men have great pride in each other and train hard. The outlook for this team is very optimistic and the adventure begins to a successful season", said Bevec.
