SOFTBALL: HORNETS MERCY OWLS

After falling in their season opener over a week ago and postponing a couple of games due to poor weather, the Hornets finally got the opportunity to hit the field for their second game on Wednesday at Citrus College. FC came out flexing some muscle with a 14-2 mercy over the Owls.

FC lost to Palomar 7-1 in their season opener to Palomar last Wednesday. Citrus swept Palomar in a double header to open their season last Friday.

Elexa Rangel got it started for Fullerton in the first inning hitting a double to left center that scored Alexis Contreras. Amanda Guillen knocked in two more runs with a shot to the left side scoring Eryka Springer and Rangel.

Citrus retaliated with two runs on a home run blast by Jade Nua with Celine Spathias on base. That would be the Owl's only offensive production for the day.

Fullerton, however, continued their tear at the plate scoring two more runs in the second inning, seven in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth. In all, FC had 10 hits on the day.

Sophomore pitcher Isabella Aguilar was strong for the Hornets throwing 5 innings of 5-hit softball. Aguilar had 2 Ks, 3 walks, and 2 earned runs against.

At the plate for Fullerton, sophomore SS Amanda Guillen led the way going 3-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI. Sophomore OF Alexis Contreras, freshman 3B Elexa Rangel, and sophomore 2B Alex Hernandez all had 2 hits on the day. Hernandez also did some damage with 3 RBI.

Up Next: The Hornets (1-1 overall) will look to keep their winning ways going when they travel down to Southwestern College this Friday, February 10th. Game time is at 3:00 pm.
