SOFTBALL: HORNETS DROP OEC OPENER

The Hornet softball squad took 7-0 loss in the Orange Empire Conference opener against Riverside City College at home Wednesday afternoon.

The game was scoreless battle until the top of the fourth inning, until Riverside's Aerial Carlson hit an inside the park home run over the right fielder's head. A'loni Appleton came in on the next at bat ripping a double to the left field fence. She scored on an error to short putting the Tigers up 2-0.

The fifth was not any better for Fullerton as Riverside scored three more runs. Marcelina Arevalo reached first on an error allowing Simoriah Scharer to score. Carlson created more havoc doubling to right center scoring Emily Wilcox and Arevalo.

In the seventh, RCC added more salt into the wound when Samantha Ludwig singled to center field scoring Carlson and Wilcox.

The Hornets had 4 hits on the day stranding 6 baserunners, while the Tigers had 7 hits stranding 7. The Hornets committed 4 errors, while RCC had 2.

Fullerton's Natasha Trujillo got the start in the circle and took the loss. She went 3.1 innings with 1 strikeout, 2 walks, and one earned against. Isabella Aguilar came to throw 3 innings with 2 strikeouts, 3 walks, and 3 earned runs. Kylie Patrick finished the game going .02 innings with 2 strikeouts and allowing a hit.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-1 overall, 1-0 conference) will take on Antelope Valley College in Lancaster on Tuesday, February 21st. Game time is at 3:00 pm.
