SOFTBALL: HOME LOSS IN EXTRAS

In an Orange Empire Conference game on Wednesday, the FC softball squad lost another tough one at home 4-1 in eight innings to Saddleback College.

The loss for Fullerton sets them back in the race in the competitive OEC at 1-3, while their overall record suffers at 4-6. The Hornets have yet to win a home game this season and are in the midst of a 0-5 drought. On the bright side, the talented Hornets are 4-1 on the road. Saddleback's victory lifts them to 3-1 in conference and 7-5 overall.

FC committed two errors in the game, but both of them were in the first inning giving Saddleback the opportunity to grab a 1-0 lead.

The game remained quiet until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Hornets tied it up on a single by pinch hitter Adrian Sousa that gave a very speedy Jill Saiza the chance to score from second base.

The Gauchos and Hornets fought on going into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, the Saddleback bat got hot as Reis Birkett doubled to center scoring Carley Buonarigo. Nelsa Delagente singled through the right side scoring Summer Smith and Haliegh Wilkerson doubled to right center giving Delagente the go-ahead run. When the dust cleared, the Gauchos were up 4-1.

In the bottom of the eighth with two outs, Fullerton managed to get two on base (Jessica Piceno and Natasha Trujillo), but they were left stranded as the Gauchos walked away with the win.

Up Next: The Hornets will play a double-header at home this Saturday, March 4th against LA Valley College at 10:00 am and Rio Hondo College at 12:00 pm.
