WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: HORNETS WIN IN OVERTIME!

The Hornets hosted El Camino College in a non-conference game on Wednesday night with Fullerton narrowly beating the Warriors 63-62 in overtime.

The win gives Fullerton an overall record of 4-3, while the El Camino loss lands them at 1-3.

Both teams came out hot matching each other shot for shot, and by the end of the first quarter El Camino had a 21-19 advantage.

At 7:37 in the second quarter, it looked as if the Warriors were beginning to pull away when Kayla Bibb made a layup giving El Camino a 26-21 lead. Fullerton responded scoring nine unanswered points taking back the lead with a minute left in the quarter. By halftime, FC had a small 31-33 lead.

The game remained close throughout the third and fourth quarters. The Hornets were down 56-54 with seven seconds left in the fourth, and FC's Melody Thomsen took the game into her hands driving into the key in a last-ditch effort. Stretching out for a one-handed scoop-shot, the ball left Thomsen's hand banking off of the glass and through the rim as the last second ticked off the clock forcing overtime.

With the score 56-56 heading into overtime, Fullerton quickly took a 61-56 lead on a lay-in by Monica Hana and a three-pointer by Kristen Sheriff.

El Camino came within one point (63-62) with thirty-six seconds left in the game on a layup by Meghan Peneueta, but the Hornet defense held strong earning the win.

The tightly contested game featured 10 ties and 15 lead changes.

Four Hornets scored in double digits in Racquel Licea (11), Kristen Sheriff (11), Melody Thomsen, and Nancy De La Cruz (10). Thomsen also added 7 rebounds. Monica Hana contributed 9 points with 10 rebounds.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-3 overall) will open with West LA College at the LA Valley College Tournament on Friday, December 9th at 5:00 pm. The tournament will run December 9-11.
