W. TRACK & FIELD: OEC TWILIGHT MEET

The Lady Hornets held strong with a 63-60 win over the Gauchos for the season's last OEC conference dual meet held at Saddleback College last Thursday evening.

The FC team had a total of sixteen PR's (personal records) and a new school record.

The evening started with a win in the Javelin as Rebecca De Iorio threw a 13 foot personal record for her winning toss of 110'4" and places her in the top twelve for SO CA competition.

Teammate Michelle Carter picked up the third place with her effort of 89'9".

Mia Wells picked up her first PR for the evening in the Hammer Throw improving to distance of 82'10" for third place. Rebecca De Iorio had a PR in the same event with 73'1". Mia continued on with her second PR for the night in the Shot Put improving her previous PR by two feet and another third place with a 31'1" effort. Her Discus fell short of her PR but picked up another third place for the team.

Jumping to a double win and her first meet of the season was Jasmine Chatman in the Long Jump (15' 4.25") and Triple Jump (30' 1"). "A good start to my season", says Jasmine.

Switching over to the track events was Jael Jones picking up her PR in the 100M - 14.41 for second place. Jael grabbed third place and her second personal best in the 200M for a time of 30.22.

Jessica Aragon, Jenny Cadman and Chau Nguyen had improvements in the 200M and 400M.

In the middle distance, Tia Streeter took command from the start of her 800M race for the win and her PR running confident in 2:22.60. She is ranked 13th in SoCal competition.

Taylor Morico ran close to her PR for second place in the 1500M 5:12.96 with Dani Rubio broke her PR with a 5:30.85 finish.

Vanessa Franco was the 400M Hurdle champion for the meet running over ten hurdles in 1:08.61 (one second off her best time for the season and ranked top ten in SO CA). Vanessa reported, "It felt good and I liked how I ran with my new approach to the race".

The best performances was saved for the last two events of the evening for the Lady Hornets. Daisy Esparza and Maegan Garritson stood at the line for their first 5000 meters run (3.1 miles) which is 12 and a half laps on the track and nothing new for these ladies as they are use to this distance and part of the 2013 Hornet Cross Country team. A new school record was set by Daisy Esparza running 18:09.76 with confidence (previous record held by Teresa Valdez 18:11.4h, 1986).

"Going into this season my goal was to break my PRs not the school record! With Coach Watkins training and motivational talks I was able to put everything aside and focus on a race and show how hard I've been training at practice", said Esparza.

Maegan Garritson finished with a strong second place and ran 19:23.68. The ladies are excited however not surprised as their training is where it should be for now in this part of the season. Daisy is holding 4th and Maegan is 18th overall in SoCal rankings.

It came down to the 1600M Relay and the ladies were behind two points to the Gauchos. Vanessa Franco lead off for the Hornets to pass the baton to Jenny Cadman. Jenny passed it off to Dani Rubio and finally to anchor Tia Streeter. The ladies ran their second best race of the season in 4:25.66 and to win the race and clinch the team "WIN".

"We set out to accomplish our goals for the meet and I liked our focus and determination", claimed, Head Coach Gina Bevec.
