WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: OEC PRELIMS

The season is heating up as the Hornets competed in the OEC Prelim Championships at Riverside City College last Friday. 

Six FC athletes had improved their marks in this meet. The meet was a combination of qualifying for the track events and all field events were finals only.  Field events contested were the long jump, shot put and javelin were you saw the Hornets compete for team points. 

Marianne Gourd had her best series of throws in the shot put, as her first attempt was her best of 38' 6.25" (PR) and a fourth place finish. Philliz Tu'avao was next in line behind her with a 36' 2.75". Kim Mataia finished in seventh place with a toss of 33' 5.75". 

As a team, Fullerton placed eighth for team points scoring 11 points in those events.  The Hornets picked up another three points in the javelin with Yessenia Gutierrez placing sixth with a heave of 76' 9". 

The long jump gave FC another 10 points with Myrna Gillas taking third with 15' 10.25" jump. Josephine Riese took the sixth spot and her PR jump of 14' 9.75".

Shyleen Ramos cleaned up the eighth position with her PR of 14' 7.75".  The Hornets currently have 24 points coming from the field events for team points in the meet.

The track events were qualifying rounds to come back next week for the regular championship races. Qualifying Hornets in the 100 meter race for next week were Madison Reese (she ran her best race of 13.00) and Jordyn Reese was a click behind her with 13.03. Belen Banda-Gonzalez gave herself a PR and qualified in the 800M with a time of 2:37.28. 

The Hornets were not successful qualifying anyone in the 200M, but Myrna Gillas ran a two second PR in the qualifying round with a time of 27.37. 

Up Next: The OEC Championships at Riverside City College - Field Events start time 11:00 a.m.  Track Events start time 3:00 pm.
