WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: HORNETS PROGRESSING

The Lady Hornets had a great day of competition at the El Camino Invitational last Friday.

The personal records (PR) this week equaled 11, which totaled as many as last week.

Rebeca Perez ran 2:32.28 in the 800M helping her to a four-second improvement. Ranked fourth in the OEC, Perez came back and ran the 3000M in 11:33.58.

Jordan Montgomery and Kim Estrada each took 13 seconds off of their previous 800M race and showing their rest from time off from injuries was in their favor.

Alicia Victoria mixing up her races ran the 100M in 13.09 and came back and ran the 400M H.

Teammate Shenise West ran a second faster in the same event still working on learning how to run the hurdle race with a time of 1:16.65.

Gearing up for her next heptathlon, Roxanne Cuevas ran four seconds faster than her last time at 2:44.48 in the 800M race. She had a half a second improvement in the 100M Hurdles and a foot improvement in the javelin.

Samantha Starkey ran close to her PR's in the 100M and 200M races, however her biggest improvement happened in the long jump with a 15'6.75" jump ranking her fourth in the OEC.

Chelsie Davila had a good day adding three feet on to her previous long jump.

Kim Mataia had a half foot PR in the shot put placing third in the meet only a couple inches from the meet winner with a 36' 1.5" throw.

Angellee Vernon achieved over 11 feet further with her discus PR of 103'9".

Alexis Daisy Kotey tossed the hammer 15 feet further than her previous PR (116'0"), which ranks her fifth in the OEC.

Up Next: The Hornets have a bye this week, but Roxanne Cuevas will compete in the SoCal Regional heptathlon April 2-3. The team will be back in action at Glendale College for the Vaquero Invitational on April 6th.
