FOOTBALL: HORNETS GET THE BOOT AT THE WESTERN STATE BOWL

#5 Fullerton's 2015 season ended on a down note on Saturday afternoon losing 42-24 to visiting #10 Chaffey College in the Western State Bowl.

The game took a wrong turn for the Hornets early. QB Tre Tinsley was sacked and the ball was knocked loose allowing Chaffey to take over on the FC 5-yardline. On Chaffey's first play from scrimmage, they punched the ball in on a short run by RB Quincey Ross (12:44 1Q).

It was all Panthers in the first half as they went on to score 28 points to the Hornet's 10.

Fullerton came out in the second half with some fire in their bellies forcing Chaffey to punt for the first time in the game.

On their first possession of the second half, Tinsley handed the ball off to Kentavious "Pop" Thomas who ran the ball with speed and authority for 49 yards to the Panther 1-yardline. On the very next play, Thomas finished what he started scoring from a yard out (13:13 3Q).

The score remained 28-17 for the remainder of the third quarter and deep into the fourth.

Chaffey struck again widening their lead with 4:14 left in regulation when QB Levi Plante broke free weaving in and out of Hornet defenders 26 yards to pay dirt putting the Panthers up 35-17.

With the game at hand in Chaffey's favor, FC did not pack it in as Thomas willed his way to the end zone on a 23-yard run (2:04 4Q).

Up by 11 points, Chaffey put the nail in the coffin for FC when RB De'Zhontaey Fletcher broke free for a 46-yard TD run with 1:16 left in the bowl game.

Chaffey wrapped up the game and their season with an overall record of 7-4 and will now bring home the 2015 Western State Bowl title.

The Hornets may have ended their season below expectation with an overall record of 6-5, however this team made many great plays throughout the year beating some of the nation's top-ranked teams (Mt. SAC, Cerritos, and Riverside). There is no question that Fullerton is loaded with many talented players that will move on to the four-year level on scholarship, and there are other gifted players who will be back next year hungry for a run at a state title.
