Bio
Fullerton College has named Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) Kelley as dean of the Physical Education division.
Dr. Kelley joins the college after contributing eighteen years as a professor in the Exercise Science, Nutrition and Health Department at Grossmont College in San Diego where she served in many roles including: department chair, academic senate officer, basic skills coordinator, POCR trainer, department CTE coordinator and SLO coordinator. She is excited to now be a part of the Fullerton College legacy.
An avid sports fan, she has worked in kinesiology and athletic departments throughout her career. She was hooked after videotaping for her dad’s college soccer program and securing a job as the team manager for a university team. Beth’s previous full-time and adjunct teaching posts include Santa Rosa Junior College, Solano Community College, and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. A northern California native, she also taught in the Kinesiology Department at San Francisco State University and served as director of the faculty/staff wellness program.
A proud product of community college education, she earned an associate’s degree from Santa Rosa Junior College and a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University in Physical Education: Emphasis in Athletic Training. Beth continued her educational pursuits at UNLV where she completed a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology. Later in her career, she studied under Drs J. Luke Wood and Frank Harris and earned an Ed.D. from SDSU in Educational Leadership, Community College/Postsecondary Leadership Concentration. Her research interests include effective department chairs, deans, teaching/learning and all topics related to exercise, athletics and health!
Known for her enthusiasm, innovative approach, and commitment to the field of kinesiology, Dr. Kelley has been a consultant for local, state and regional physical activity initiatives. She was a Governor-appointed special consultant to the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and has volunteered for leadership posts with professional organizations such as California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and currently serves as the Kinesiology Primary Reviewer for the statewide C-ID program. Beth has been a contributing author for popular kinesiology textbooks and is a requested presenter on a wide range of topics. An ACSM-Certified Exercise Physiologist, she also owned a successful fitness/wellness promotion business.
When Beth isn’t busy with work, you’ll likely find her at an FC athletic or dance event or pursing a new fitness activity!
