BASEBALL: HORNETS NEVER GIVE UP

The FC baseball team battled hard for a 5-4 win over Cypress College at home Thursday afternoon.

It's been a rough spell for the Hornets the past few weeks battling through a six-game losing streak, but it ended today with a great never-say-die win against their district rival.

Fullerton spotted Cypress two runs in the top of the first. Pu'ukani De Sa clubbed a solo shot over right field and then Ryan Maciel hit a single to right center scoring Coby Morales.

The Hornets answered back with a run in the first to cut the Charger lead in half on Matt Darr's single to right field that plated Dominic Martinez.

Cypress went up 3-1 in the fifth when Andrew Sojka grounded out to second base giving Jason McDonnell the chance to come home.

In the sixth, Cypress added another run on Ricky Lane's double down the right field line scoring Maciel.

Fullerton had a breakthrough in the sixth hanging three runs on the Chargers to tie the game up 4-4. Martinez took advantage of a Charger error and came home. Julian Tellez ripped a hard shot down the right field line for a single that scored Darr. Tellez went on to score on another Cypress error.

Elias Rios got the ball rolling for FC in the eighth inning hitting beating out a ball that was hit to third. David Barrios then moved Rios over to second on a SAC bunt. Marco Malerba hit a single that got through the right side moving Rios to third. Ryan Lamastra reached first on a fielder's choice that gave Rios the opportunity to come home.

The Hornets owned their first lead of the game at 5-4 and managed to shut down the Chargers in the ninth holding on to the win.

Garrett Paschel (2-4) earned the win throwing 2 strong innings with only a hit against, 2 walks, and a strikeout. Starting pitcher Justin Schubert also pitched well going 7 innings with 3 earned runs against, 4 walks and 2 K's.

At the dish, two Hornets had a multi-hit game in Matt Darr (2) and Dominic Martinez (2).

Up Next: Fullerton (4-14 overall, 2-12 OEC) will travel to Cypress College for a doubleheader to wrap up the four-game series this Friday, May 14th at 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
