BASEBALL: WALK IT OFF

The FC baseball squad welcomed Mt. San Antonio College to Hornet Field on Tuesday and got past the Mounties 15-14 in walk-off fashion.

It was only game one of the four-game non-conference series this week and it was a barn-burner that went the Hornet's way.

Fullerton scored three run in the bottom of the first on Matt Darr's double to right center scoring Dominic MartinezJacob McClure popped a shot through the left side scoring Jacob Sharp, and Julian Tellez hit a SAC Fly to right that gave Martinez the chance to come home.

The Hornets went up 6-0 in the second when Darr smashed the ball over the left field ivy for a three-run homer scoring Sharp and Martinez.

Mt. SAC got on the board in the fifth inning scoring two runs when Caleb Ellis hit a single up the middle plating Jacob Moreno and Cole Jordan SAC flied out to center field scoring Nin Burns II.

In the top of the ninth, Fullerton held a commanding 11-4 lead over the Mounties, but baseball is an interesting game where no lead is ever secure. Mt. SAC mounted a huge comeback taking a 14-11 devasting lead.

In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Matt Darr got the train moving by hitting a double to right center that scored Dominic Martinez. Down 14-12, with two outs, Marco Malerba singled to the left side getting Darr to third. David Barrios cracked one up the middle scoring two runners in Darr and Malerba to knot the game up at 14-14. This Fullerton College team, once again, proved its never-say-die attitude by pulling off a walk-off win. Brian Landon ripped a shot up the middle that brought Barrios in after hustling around from second.

Dominic Martinez had a successful day at the plate with 4 hits and 5 runs, while Matt Darr was clutch with 3 hits, 1 home run, 3 runs, and 6 RBI. Brian Landon was 2 for 2 on the day that included the game-winner. David Barrios had 3 hits with 1 RBI, and Sawyer Chelsey contributed 2 hits and 2 runs. Jacob McClure had 2 hits and 2 RBI.
