FOOTBALL: HORNETS KEEP THE KEY

In the 92nd meeting between two of California's oldest community college football teams, Fullerton College out-gained Santa Ana College 49-14 in a lopsided match-up at Eddie West Field on Saturday afternoon.

Fresh off the 36-13 loss at Riverside City College the previous Saturday, the Hornets vented their frustrations out on the Dons taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter (5-yard run by Sam & 3-yard run by Verhaegh).

The Dons scored with 3:25 left in the second quarter on a 6-yard pass from QB Lincoln Faletoi to Hayden Dunn.

FC countered with a touchdown of their own when QB Joey Verhaegh hit Jarell Moss for a 6-yard touchdown with two seconds left in the half giving Fullerton a 21-7 lead.

The second half began with a bang as FC's Marnez Ogletree took the kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown.

On the Dons next possession, QB Shane Truelove was picked off at the Fullerton 1-yardline by Austin Steele. Fullerton drove the ball 99 yards and hit pay dirt on a 3-yard run by Jamal Sam. Sam was unstoppable on the ground for the Hornets running for 124 yards on 16 carries for 3 TDs.

Up 35-7, the Hornet defense gave up a touchdown with two minutes left in the third on a 43-yard run by Tyler Siudzinski. From there, the FC defense held Santa Ana in check sealing the game.

The Fullerton win today ties the series record for the most consecutive wins at eight (2007-2014). The first time this was done was between 1963 and 1970 during the Sherbeck era. Santa Ana's longest winning streak stretched six games from 1957 to 1962.

Up Next: The Hornets (5-2, 3-0) will host Grossmont College on Saturday, October 25th at Nathan Shapell Stadium. Kick off will be at 6:00 pm.
