FOOTBALL: SIGNING DAY! 5 HORNETS START IT OFF
Signing day began with a bang for the Hornets as 5 players signed their name on the dotted line for the chance to learn and compete at the four-year level.
Fullerton's highly touted defensive back from San Jacinto High Xavion Steele (59 tackles, 2 ints., 2 sacks, 12 breakups) did not waste any time signing with Utah State. He had offers from Hawaii, Fresno, UTEP, Arkansas State, San Jose State, UMass, and Southern Mississippi. The Aggies will be playing in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl against Kent State on December 20th.
Former linebacker converted to safety, Jacob Jones from La Habra High committed to Idaho State. He led the Hornet defensive unit in tackles with 68, had 2 ints., and a sack.
The big tight end, Spencer Owens was offered by San Diego State and a few others, but chose to sign with Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers will play in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl in Dallas on December 30th against Western Michigan.
Defensive back Reggie Whitfield signed with Robert Morris University. The Centennial High (Corona) standout had 14 tackles and 2 breakups in 9 games for the Hornets. He is a nice addition to a team that is on the rise after going 6-1 in the Northeast Conference.
Offensive lineman Trevor Pulsifer out of Cypress High committed to Missouri Southern.
In addition to the players signing, Devin Brown will be going to Waldorf as a Graduate Assistant. The Warriors will be getting a hard-working great kid.
2018 Hornet Caleb Johnson decided to leave the University of Texas after signing with them a year ago. Today he chose UCLA as his next destination.
"We are proud and excited for the accomplishments of these young men. Our coaching staff has seen first hand their effort and determintation. However, today is only the start of the signing period. We will have others join this group over the next few weeks", Hornet Head Coach Garrett Campbell.
