FOOTBALL: FORMER HORNET COACH DICK CAMPBELL PASSES
Coach Campbell was a proud Hornet that was on the FC football coaching staff for 15 years. He started his coaching and teaching career at Bishop Montgomery High School and would serve as an assistant coach at Leuzinger High School, Foothill High School and Walnut High School. In 1975 he was named Head Coach at Garden Grove High School and coached the North in the 1976 Orange County All-Star game. Campbell was the head coach of the Argonauts from 1975 to 1979 winning a league title in 1975.
While at Fullerton College working with Hal Sherbeck, Campbell was an instant hit with the staff and players helping the Hornets to a national championship in 1983 along with three conference titles.
Current Fullerton College Head Coach, Garrett Campbell, was handed the Hornet torch at a young age working the sidelines as a ball boy for his father's games. Garrett eventually played for the Hornets and then went on to become the Head Coach at Illinois College, where he relished the opportunity of having his father join the Blueboy coaching staff for four seasons. Dick also came back for a second stint on the Hornet coaching staff when Garrett was hired as the Offensive Coordinator in 2016. It was a good year as Fullerton College went on to win a national title. Besides Garrett, two of Coach Campbell's other sons, Gregg and Gavin, also played for the Hornets and continue to coach; Gregg is an assistant at Edison High School and Gavin currently coaches in Europe.

Coach Campbell made an impression on many football players during his forty-plus coaching and teaching career, but he truly made his biggest impact on his loving family. He leaves behind his wife Lois, six sons (Gregg, Garrett, Gavin, Steve, Mike and Greg Scott) along with 10 grandchildren.
