MEN'S BASKETBALL: COMETS UPSET HORNETS

Fullerton hosted Palomar College in a non-conference match-up at home Tuesday night and fell to the Comets 72-65.

The loss is only the second for FC as they now sit at 5-2 overall, while the win is the second for Palomar as their overall record improves to 2-2.

The Hornets were in control of the game as they were up by as much as 14 points in the first half (9:09). By halftime FC had a ten-point lead 37-27.

In the second half, Palomar climbed back in it taking their first lead of the half with just over five minutes left to play. Deven Riley was fouled as drove the lane hitting the two-pointer and was successfully on the and-one. Hitting the free throw gave the Comets a 59-57 edge.

With three minutes left, FC took the lead back at 60-62 when Jayson Collins hit a much-needed jumper, however the persistent Comets grabbed the lead for good (64-62) with two minutes left in regulation on a layup by Matt Duniphan.

Struggling to hit their shots in the final two minutes, Fullerton could only muster up a three-pointer by Blake McBride with 33 seconds left. Palomar's defense held strong earning their second win on the season.

For the game, FC shot 39.7% from the floor, while Palomar shot 48%. The Comets edged the Hornets on the boards 38-35.

Ian Fox led the Hornets in scoring with 15 points. He also contributed 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Julian Richardson and Collins both scored 12 points apiece.
