The #9 Hornets went into the lion's den on Wednesday night to do battle against #1 Saddleback College falling short 61-49 to the champs.
The loss gives FC their sixth of the season (21-6) and lands them at 9-2 in the Orange Empire Conference (second place), while the win allowed Saddleback College its fifth consecutive Orange Empire Conference title (11-0) improving their overall record to 26-1.
The Gauchos hit the boards hard out-rebounding Fullerton 46-33. Fullerton also missed their marks shooting 27% from the floor, their second lowest of the season. Their lowest came on January 22nd against Saddleback (23%) in a two-point loss. For the season, FC averages 45% from the floor.
The Saddleback victory spoiled the return of Fullerton head coach Perry Webster to his alma mater where he led the Gauchos to a state title as the starting point guard on the 2010 team and then returned as an assistant coach to help Saddleback win a 2015 state title before taking over as head coach at Fullerton College this season.
Kenny Barnes led the Hornets with 18 points while Isaiah Clark scored 10 points with 7 rebounds.
Up Next: The Hornets (21-6, 9-2) have another challenge this coming Friday as they travel down the street to conference and district rival Cypress College (21-6, 8-3). Tipoff is at 7:00 pm. Come on out and support your Hornets on the road!
