M. SOCCER: WINNING IN THE CLASSROOM TOO

M. SOCCER: WINNING IN THE CLASSROOM TOO

The FC men's soccer has become one of the finest programs in the state since head coach Greg Aviles took over the team in 2016.

The team has gone to the playoffs in each of the last four seasons and has won two Orange Empire Conference championships (2018 and 2019). The most impressive part of the program is not only what the Hornets have done on the field, but in the classroom.

In three years, the men's soccer program has a 100% transfer rate (95% in the first year). Every student-athlete that has transferred from the Hornet program has received either an academic or athletic scholarship to some extent, and in many cases both. Over $700,000 in scholarship money has been generated in the last four years.

Student athletes have successfully transferred to every four-year level from D1-D3 (NCAA) to NAIA colleges.

"It always been our belief and responsibility that the word 'student' must come before the 'athlete'. So for that, success must begin in the classroom. We truly believe as our young men grow in confidence and maturity, they begin to take pride in all aspects of their life; which for us carries onto the field. I feel very blessed for myself and these young student-athletes to have such a great coaching staff and life coach around them that work hard at these philosophies to dedicate to their "Life-Long success". We don't recruit players for a season, we recruit family members for life. Faith. Family. Futbol", Head Coach Greg Aviles.

The program continues its upward mobility and is on pace for a record-breaking AA Degree Graduation with over 40 men's soccer AA degree graduates by the Spring 2021. That would be a record setting feat in the state and perhaps the nation. The only other sport that graduates that many student-athletes at the junior college level is football.
