M. SOCCER: CCCAA ALL-SCHOLAR HORNETS

The FC men's soccer program was selected as one of the CCCAA Scholar-Teams of the Year.

The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Scholar-Athlete awards combine excellence in academics, athletics, and citizenship. The 2019 men's soccer team of 36 members had a cumulative GPA of 3.25, one of the best in the state.

This 2019 soccer season saw the Hornets finish the season as OEC Champions with an overall record of 12-7-4 and 7-3-2 in conference. The team prepared hard during the summer and developed skill level throughout the year. Players and coaches worked hard in practice, overcame season ending injuries to key players and developed solid game plans. The team exhibited outstanding sportsmanship throughout the year and respected their opponents and the game of soccer.

Team members competed in the classroom and were committed to being great student- athletes. Student-athletes were required to attend weekly study hall and complete all course work in order to play. Team clearly understood expectations and responded in a positive way.

Missing the 2020 season was hard pill to swallow, but the players kept their heads up and continued to work hard on their studies and training. The Hornets will come back on campus this spring as they prepare for the 2021 fall season.

"I am very pleased with the direction of our men's soccer program and the great emphases placed on academic excellence. We are winning on the field, in the classroom and developing people of character", FC Athletic Director Scott Giles.
