MEN'S TRACK & FIELD: GETTING IT STARTED

The Fullerton College Men's track and field team kicks off their 2015 campaign this Friday with a double-dual meet against Orange Coast and Santiago Canyon Colleges.

The Fall and Winter training has been tough and tedious, but the Hornets are ready to get their feet wet and test the conditioning of their labors. Most everyone is competing in multiple events and treating this meet as a good start to a great year.

Returning to compete for a second year, Head Coach Wade Watkins is expecting All-Conference Cross Country runner Brandon Velasco to compete all year long for the top position in both the 5k and 10k events. Along with Velasco, sophomore Khaled Takwa, freshman Johnny Nava, and freshman Jonathan Sheatz should all be in the mix.

Field event specialist Nelson Hernandez, Michael Salmeron, Carlos Luna and Braxton Word (all freshman) should show their power in all four throwing events. (The hammer and discus will be contested at nearby Cal State Fullerton Friday morning)

Other freshmen athletes making their FC debut, and adding to the final point total, will be Brenden Bartunek, Zedric McKee, and Ray Farr. Stay tuned throughout the year to see what other Hornet names appear as the Fullerton College Hornets take on their strong competition within the Orange Empire Conference.
