MEN'S TRACK & FIELD: RAIN OR SHINE

In a meet marred by heavy rain, wind, cold weather and long delays, the FC men's track & field team still managed some excellent performances at Occidental College Carnival.

Freshman standout Justin Walker acquitted himself very well in the 110m HH and the Long Jump. Going up against international and four-year university athletes, Walker won the high hurdles race in a time of 14.59 seconds. Among community college athletes, Walker ranks #3 in Southern California in the hurdles.

In the long jump, Walker took second overall, jumping 24' 7 ¾." He currently ranks #1 in the Southern California Community College rankings in the Long Jump.

The Hornets did well in the throwing events with three athletes placing in the shot put. In a field of 30 athletes, the Hornets finished 3rd, 7th and 10th. Francisco Padilla's toss was a 4 foot PR (personal record). In fact, all of the shot put athletes PR'd.

In a Discus competition with 30 competing athletes, Braxton Word came away with the victory with teammates Josh Spillane and Francisco Padilla taking 3rd and 4th, respectively. Word's throw of 136' 6" puts him at 8th on the Southern California Community College rankings.

Up Next: The Hornets will compete in the Antelope Valley College Invitational on Friday, March 18th @11:00 am. This will also be the sight of the Southern California Regional Championships later this season.
