HORNET SPLIT

The Hornets hosted Antelope Valley and Palomar Colleges Friday morning and split their matches winning one and losing in the other.

In the first match of the day against Antelope Valley, Fullerton fell behind early dropping the first two sets. In set three, the Hornets came to life winning it 25-23. On a roll, Fullerton came from behind 10-5 to win the fourth set 25-22. With the match ready for the taking, FC dropped the fifth and final set 15-12.

Billy Veng was the FC kills leader with 16. JP De Luna, Marcus Blewett, and Andrew Ramos all followed with 9 kills each. Nathan Cheav had 43 assists. 

In match two against Palomar, the Hornets took the first set 25-14, but then dropped the second set 25-18. In the set three, Palomar and FC went back and forth on points, until the Comets swung it in their favor 25-18. Down 12-5 in the fourth set, Fullerton came back to win it 25-22. In the fifth and final set, the Hornets went up early 10-2, but Palomar swung the momentum in its direction pushing the game into extras at 17-17. Fighting for the two-point win, FC finally pushed ahead taking the set and match 24-22 on Denim Young's solo block from the left side.

Alex Gaustella led the way with 17 kills, while Billy Veng followed right behind with 16. Denim Young chipped in with 7 kills. Nahtan Cheav contributed 52 assists for the win.
