SOFTBALL: HORNETS REACH OUT TO THE COMMNUNITY

On Friday, Nov 20th 2015 the Fullerton College softball team hit the streets of the local community and provided services to our neighbors.

Eighteen players, three coaches, and a grandpa reached out one month prior to set up for a day of raking leaves, washing windows, washing vehicles, weeding, and any other odd jobs that they could help our neighbors with.

"In the seventeen years that I have been here at Fullerton College, I felt the need to introduce ourselves to the neighborhood. I know from experience how sometimes the college student-athlete gets judged without even getting to know them. Our team has some great kids that include Presidential Honor Students and NFCA Academic Scholars. It was important to get out there and change the perception by giving back and showing that we care about the community", Coach Marian Mendoza.

While serving their community, the Hornets not only got to show a different side of the student-athlete, they got to meet some nice people along the way.

"Building relationships is an important factor of who we are, and what we are about. It teaches our girls how to work together and build something more important than winning a ball game. It's about winning in life. I felt very honored when the homeowners told me these girls were respectful and hard working kids. It is going to be our goal to reach out to the community every other month. We want to know our neighbors and show them what Fullerton College is about. We have great pride in our college as well as our community", claimed Mendoza.
