SOFTBALL: HORNETS FALL TO CYPRESS

After a 10-1 win over Orange Coast on Wednesday, the FC softball squad wrapped up their last regular season home game with a 4-2 loss over #1 in the State Cypress College on Friday afternoon.

The loss now gives the Hornets a 22-16 overall record and a 11-9 Orange Empire Conference record, while the Charger victory keep them undefeated in the OEC (20-0) with overall record of 33-5.

Cypress claimed an early 1-0 lead scoring in the first inning on Tobu Salzman's SAC fly to center field that brought Justice Walker home.

The Chargers added two more runs in the third inning on a shot to center by Jenny Vasquez that scored Jezz Portillo and Salzman. They went on to score another run in the fifth on a SAC fly to center by Vasquez scoring Melanie Okazaki.

Down 4-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the FC offense finally came around. Desiree Lopez got it going hitting a double to right center scoring Brigid Ruiz. Melissa Madrigal then scored on a wild pitch. With two out and runners on first and third, Alexis Pintado laid down a bunt and was subsequently thrown out at first by the pitcher to end the game.

The FC bats popped the ball up for an out a total of 14 times.

FC starting pitcher Brigid Ruiz (21-13) tossed a complete seven-inning game allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits for the loss.

Cypress pitcher Vanessa Ledesma tossed a complete game giving up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, with 3 K's.

Up Next: The Lady Hornets (23-15, 12-8) will hit the road against Riverside City College on Wednesday, April 27th. The first pitch goes out at 6:00 pm.

Hornet players Brigid Ruiz, Erin Molina, Miranda Hernandez, Anissa Loera, Desiree Lopez, Evelyn Hernandez, and Alexis Pintado were honored before the game as it was sophomore day. The FC coaching staff presented them with flowers and a gift while being escorted to the field by family members.
