STINGING SANTA ANA

In a big Orange Empire Conference game, the FC softball team knocked off the first-place Santa Ana College Dons at home Monday 4-3. 

The Hornet win gives the team a 10-7 record in the Orange Empire Conference landing them in 4th place. Santa Ana's loss today bumps them to 13-3 in the OEC standings knocking the team down to 2nd place. Saddleback's 4-3 win over Cypress College today puts the Chargers at 13-4 in 3rd place. Santiago Canyon moves up to 1st place at 14-3. 

In the first inning, FC took advantage of a Don error giving Alendy Aguilar the chance to come home from third. 

The Hornets made it 4-0 in the third inning when Dee Ramirez ripped a single up the middle scoring Monique Rangel. Bell Morales knocked a single that got through the left side scoring Rachel Varela. Arianna Gonzalez reached on a fielder's choice and Dee Ramirez came home on a Santa Ana fielding error.  

The Dons were not down and out as they scored two runs in the top of the fourth and then brought another across in the fifth to get within a run at 4-3. 

Olivia Nunez (4-3) pitched a strong game for the Hornets shutting down Santa Ana's offensive surge. Nunez went a complete 7 innings with 5 hits against, 1 earned run, and only walked 2 batters for her 4th win of the season. 

FC catcher Casey Dufrene led all batters on the day going 3 for 3.
