RD.1 SOCAL REGIONALS: A VALIANT EFFORT

In the opening round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the No. 13 Hornets lost both games in the best of three series at No. 5 Long Beach City College 1-0 and 1-0. 

The Hornets battled hard in both games playing exceptional defense against a Viking team that scored 223 runs this season with a team batting average of .341. 

In game one on Friday, the Hornets and Vikings battled it out for seven scoreless innings. With the bases loaded in the eighth, freshman Gladys Garcia came up hitting into a hard groundout scoring Jaylene Ross for the walk-off win. 

Ariana Gonzalez went for an inning with a walk and a hit. Olivia Nunez totaled six innings for the loss with 6 hits against, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and 2 K's. 

In game two held on Saturday, Long Beach City brought in the only run in the top of the first on a groundout by Illeana Rivera that gave Jaylene Ross the chance to come home. 

Emily Flores tossed a strong game for the Hornets. In six innings she had 5 this against, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and 2 K's.  

FC shortstop Dee Ramirez had a double and a single, while Jocelyn Jauregui and Olivia Nunez both contributed singles on the day.
