15 STRAIGHT!

15 STRAIGHT!

The No. 1 in state Fullerton College softball squad made it 15 straight wins on Monday after defeating College of the Canyons twice in a home-double-header 5-2 and 2-1.

In the first game with the Cougars, the Hornets did not get on the board until the third inning as Jianna Lopez's double to left center brought in Veronica Moore. Canyons tied it up with a run in the fourth from an error. Fullerton let it rain the next two innings pushing forward with a 5-1 lead. In the fourth, a single to left by Jordan Elias scored Alyssa Garcia, and Haley Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Caitlyn Stear. In the fifth, Coco Siono came across on a passed ball, and Alyssa Garcia struck poked a single to left scoring Angelina Granado. The Cougars managed to score one run in the seventh, but solid defense and a dominant pitching performance by Allyson Fuentes solidified the win. Fuentes went 7 innings with 4 hits against, no earned runs, had 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.

The second game of the day had FC scoring the first run in the first inning on a Fielder's Choice by Coco Siono that gave Haley Garcia the opportunity to dash home. Then all was quiet at home plate for the next four innings. Fullerton's second run came in the fifth inning on a nice shot to center field by Alyssa Garcia for a triple scoring Serina Vue. Canyons cut the FC lead in half in the top of the seventh, but once again the Hornet D stood tall holding on for the win. Allyson Fuentes was strong going another 7 innings with 2 hits against, no earned runs, had 2 walks, and 1 strikeout.

Up Next: The No. 1 Hornets will get back into to Orange Empire Conference-play on Tuesday, April 16th when they head out to Riverside City College to open a three-game series against the Tigers. Game time is at 3:00 pm.
