DAY 3 STATE TOURNAMENT: JUST ONE MORE BABY

Only one win away from the college's second-ever state title, No. 1 south Fullerton College took down the No. 1 team from the north San Joaquin Delta 12-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The last team to remain undefeated in the 3C2A State Tournament, the Hornet (43-5 overall) bats got hot at the right time outhitting the Mustangs 12-6, while the defense remained strong with no errors to San Joaquin Delta's 5.

FC took charge early slamming three runs down on the score board in the top of the first. Veronica Moore knocked a single up the middle that scored Jordan EliasJianna Lopez singled up the middle plating Caitlin Stear, and Coco Siono grounded out but gave Alyssa Garcia the opportunity to go home.

The Mustangs scored all three of their runs on two home runs in the first and third innings. In the first, Caitlynn Campbell hit a solo shot to left center, and in the third Kennedy Dingman rocked a two-run shot to left.

FC scored four runs in the second and another three in the fourth. In the seventh inning, the Hornets added two more runs for good measure. 

The duo of Allyson Fuentes and Macy Brandl kept the Mustang offense at bay with Fuentes getting the starting nod in the circle. She tossed 3 innings with 3 runs, had a walk and 2 strikeouts. Brandl (23-3) earned the win going 4 innings with only 2 hits against with no runs, no walks, and had 6 Ks.

Veronica Moore led the way offensively for Fullerton going 4 for 5 at the plate with a double 2 runs, and 4 RBI. Alyssa Garcia was 3 for 5 with 3 runs and 1 RBI. Milene Mendoza was 2 for 3 and scored a run.

Up Next: The No. 1 (south) Hornets will play good ole OEC and district rival No.2 (south) Cypress on Sunday, May 19th at West Valley College for all the marbles in the 3C2A State Championship. Game time is at noon.
