The FC women's basketball team opened up Orange Empire Conference-play against Cypress College at home on Wednesday and were beaten 73-54.
The Fullerton loss puts them at 8-9 overall and 0-1 in the OEC, while the Cypress win bumps them up to 13-5 overall and 1-0 in the Orange Empire Conference.
Fullerton's Melody Thomsen put up the game's first points hitting a deep three-pointer (9:16), but by the 7:57 mark Cypress took a 4-3 lead on a jumper by Sylvia Garcia. From there, the Chargers went on a 17-5 run and never looked back.
The second half was much the same with Cypress holding a strong lead over Fullerton. The Hornets had a hard time holding on to the ball tonight committing 32 turnovers to the Chargers' 20. Cypress also shot 37% from the floor to FC's 28.1%.
Despite the loss, Tristian Johns had a good night for the Hornets scoring a team-high 21 points. She also contributed 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Melody Thomsen scored 12 points with 7 rebounds and Monica Hanna put up 8 points with 7 rebounds.
