BIG WIN OVER SANTA ANA
The Hornets locked down their first Orange Empire Conference win at Santa Ana College Wednesday night defeating the Dons 67-60.
It was indeed a big win for Fullerton (10-7 overall) as the team does its best to keep pace in the Orange Empire Conference standings with a 1-2 record. Santa Ana suffered its 6th loss of the season and is now 11-6 overall. The Dons are now 1-2 in the OEC standings with Orange Coast (3-0) sitting all alone in first after beating Cypress (2-1) tonight 99-51.
The Hornets came out stunning the Dons in the first quarter with a 15-5 lead, but Santa Ana worked its way back in the game by the with 4 minutes left in the half at 21-19. Xochitl Hood punched through the key scoring on a layup to put FC up 25-19 at 3:43. By halftime, Fullerton pushed back with a 31-22 advantage.
Owning a strong 10-point lead with 5 minutes left in the third quarter, the Hornets slowly let the Dons back in the game by the fourth with a narrow 44-42 edge. The game got a bit dicey for Fullerton midway through the final quarter when Santa Ana snatched a 54-46 lead over Fullerton on a three-pointer by Larissa Robles. With 5 minutes left in regulation, it was looking pretty bleak for FC, but the Hornets clapped back with a 21-6 swing to win the needed conference contest.
Xochitl Hood had a big game with a double-double scoring 19 with 14 rebounds. She also had 5 assists, 4 steals, and 4 blocks. Kaylee Shimoda scored 16 with 5 steals. Both Tia Jaquias and Jasmine Arnold put up 10 points. Jaquias added 7 rebounds and Arnold had 5 steals.
