WOMEN'S SOCCER: TAKING SILVER

Hornet soccer coach Pam Lewin volunteered as a head coach at the 2016 U.S. Police and Fire Championships last month in San Diego, California.

Lewin's team wound up taking the silver medal in the championships with a combination team of police and firefighters from Irvine, Fullerton, Long Beach, Santa Ana, and Newport Beach.

This was Lewin's third stint as the team's volunteer head coach. In 2012 she helped them win gold, and in 2009 they won silver.

The tournament-style play included six teams from large agencies as well as other combined teams.

Getting its start in 1967, the California Police & Fire Championships has evolved into a national event and is open to full-time active and retired peace officers and firefighters from all 50 states.
