W. SOCCER: QUESTIONS, COACHES, AND, COVID - COACH LEWIN

COACHES & COVID is a series of questions answered by the Fullerton College coaching staff addressing the Hornet sports programs, and how they are coping during this pandemic.

FC Head Coach Pam Lewin has been coaching the FC women's soccer team since 2001. Pushing the team in an upward direction, Lewin has led the Hornets to the playoffs the last three seasons. This past season, she had four of her players sign with four-year colleges. Between working with her team and teaching classes all online, Coach Lewin took some time to answer a few questions.

It's been a long stretch without being able to work with your team in person. How are you staying connected with your student athletes?

We have been meeting and working out via Zoom.

What are some your training methods to keep the team sharp when they get back on the field?

Coach Shawn's conditioning classes are focusing on tactics and technique. I'm focus on fitness. We are doing HIIT workouts, Plyometrics and core.

You have had successful teams the past few years. What expectations do you have for the upcoming season?

Fingers crossed we have a season- we have a small returning class. Forward Morgan Dack and goalie Monica Balos were key contributors last year. We have recruited talent players from the local high schools. We think we can compete with the best in our conference and are looking to go further in the playoff picture.

With roughly 15 sophomores moving on from last season's team, do you have any new faces (freshmen or transfers) that you feel will make an impact this spring?

Yes, we have a great group of incoming freshman. We recruited every position.

Which returning players are you looking at to help lead the team back to the playoffs?

Morgan scoring goals for us and Monica defending the goal.

Any team goals for this season?

Win the south.

If you could have a weekend pass from COVID what would you do? What do you miss the most from this isolation?

I miss being on the field with the players and coaches. I would like to do anything and not wear a mask!

When you're not teaching or coaching, what do you enjoy doing? Any hobbies?

I like surfing and body boarding. About a year ago I started taking ballroom dance, and I'm trying to play guitar.

What inspires you in life? What motivates you to motivate others? I'm inspired by my athletes and my students.

I want to see them push themselves, realize their potential and achieve their goals.

We have a saying "Once a Hornet, Always a Hornet", what is it you love about Fullerton College?

I love that everyone wants to be the best- as in best coach, best educator, and best people.
