W. TRACK & FIELD: MAKING IT TO THE SOCAL REGIONALS

The Fullerton College Hornets hosted the Orange Empire Conference Championships this past Friday with good results.

The Lady Hornets finished fifth with the team standings scoring 69 points. The scoring was as follows for eight places 10-9-6-5-4-3-2-1 Nine personal records from the Lady Hornets happened in this meet and the season continues on.

The day started with the 400M relay finishing in fourth place with a season best time of 53.18 from the FC team of Jenny Cadman, Vanessa Franco, Jessica Aragon, and Jasmine Chatman.

Daisy Esparza and Taylor Morico stood at the line for the 1500M. Daisy ran for sixth place with 5:02.98 (just shy of her PR) and Taylor Morico gave herself a PR with 5:12.05.

Sarah Boutros ran her best in the 100M – 13.43 and claimed her personal record for her event and finished in sixth place. So far so good for the Lady Hornets.

Tia Streeter came in fourth with the 800M run – 2:20.26 as Vanessa Franco competed in the 400M Hurdles giving the Hornets fourth place.

The 10K's were ran last week and the 5K's was the key long distance race this week.  Esparza ran for second place in 18:24.40. She was tripped in the first mile of the race and rallied back in to the pack and had she had another five yards on the track she would have beaten Golden West's Cynthia Torres as she ran 18:24.12 for the champion spot. Maegan Garritson was seventh with 19:29.64.

"We have had Daisy and Maegan hold strong in our distance races all year long and it was great seeing them compete tough for their last year on their track for the Hornets", said Head Coach Gina Bevec.

The 1600M relay was the last track event and finished in fifth place with another season best time of 4:15.57 from Vanessa Franco, Tia Streeter, Taylor Morico, and Sarah Boutros.

In the Field Events, Rebecca De Iorio pulled out a 12 foot PR in the Javelin and was runner up with a throw of 126' 10". Teammate Michelle Carter caught the same bug and gave herself a PR with 104" 0" for fourth place. Mia Wells said she caught the same vibe and gave herself a PR in the Discus 102' 9" finishing in eighth place. As the ladies were doing their job in the throws, Jasmine Chatman took the lead with the jumping events and continued on with more PR's for the Lady Hornets. Jasmine Chatman finished in sixth place respectively for the Triple Jump 31' 4" and High Jump 4' 5 ½". "The Hornets did a fantastic job and the meet stayed on schedule and I could not have asked for any more" proudly stated by Coach Bevec
