WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: WORKING HARD

Hungry for competition, the FC women's track team traveled to Saddleback College for their second conference dual meet of the season on Friday and then competed in at the Pomana-Pitzer Invite on Saturday.

For their second dual meet of the season, the Lady Hornets traveled to Saddleback College last Friday with the Hornets beating Saddleback 58-53 and just missing Golden West 66-56.

The day started out with a season best in the 400 meter relay running 52.56 from Fanny Giron, Samantha Duong, Jasmine Mendoza, and Jasmine Williams. It was a strong showing with the 200M and 400M races. Fanny Giron won the 400M in 1:00.14 and teammate Samantha Duong a click behind 1:00.74 for second. Jasmine Williams took control of the win in the 200M running a season best of 27.31 and Fanny Giron said she would run for second place with a 27.80 effort. The day on the track finished with a win and the ladies shaving seven seconds off their 1600M relay time 4:17.07 from Fanny Giron, Jasmine Mendoza, Samantha Duong, and Andrea Mendez.

In the throws, it was a stiff competition as they were faced with last years Saddleback state finalists. Jasmine Williams had a personal record in the Shot Put throwing 29' 10.25" (9.10 meters). In the Hammer, the ladies were inspired by the long throws from Saddleback and all had personal records. Their efforts were from Amber Hernandez 91'3" (27.83M), Salena Torres 81' 1" (24.71M) and Marrisa Myers 79' 4" (24.20M). Jasmine Williams was the Javelin Winner throwing 90' 2" (27.48M). Amber Hernandez threw a personal record 74' 1" (22.60M) as well as teammate Salena Torres 73' 9" (22.49M).

On Saturday, Fullerton hit the road again traveling to Pomona College for the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet.

Jasmine Williams had a clean 100M Hurdle race running 16.32 and placed 10th overall. She came back and jumped a season best in the long jump 16' 5.25" (5.01M). This was a day to get her ready for her first Heptathlon in a few weeks. Marrisa Myers had a double PR (personal best) day. Her efforts were the hammer 80' 2" (24.45M) and discus 101' 9" (31.01M). Michelle Okoroike came out for her debut in the throws. Her shot put was 30' 2.75" (9.21M) and discus shows great promise with a toss of 105' 9" (32.24M). The other ladies had an average day and threw close to their PR's. It was an opportunity day to watch other university throwers and see big throws.

Overall Fullerton is 2-2 in the Orange Empire Conference.
