WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: BREAKING PERSONAL RECORDS

The Hornets traveled to Occidental College last Friday and picked up five personal records.

Before the meet, Hornet athlete Fanny Giron set a goal for herself, "I want to break 59 seconds in my race today." She met her goal and more with a time of 58.75 for the 400-meter. She is continues to lead the conference in that event and second to her is teammate Samantha Duong.

Sam was within one second of her PR with a 1:01.45 effort. Jasmine Mendoza ran 1:04.47 and Jenny Cadman 1:07.52 for their personal records for the day. These ladies ran the 1600 meter relay in 4:14.62 for a season best effort shaving three seconds off their previous time.

Andrea Mendez had a decent attempt in her 800-meter race and gave herself a small presonal record 2:22.01.

Breanna Arroyo had her first 5K (3.1 miles) on the track. This event entails running 12 and a half laps and finished with a 21:44.23 time. Teammate Julia Popick competed in her first 10K (25 laps - 6.1 miles) finishing in 44:02.69. This meet is great exposure for the athletes to compete in as it gave them the opportunity to race with athletes at other community colleges and four-year universities.

Up Next: The Hornets will compete this Friday, March 20th at the Antelope Valley Invitational with the events beginning at noon.
