WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: LAST OEC DUAL

The Hornets headed south to Orange Coast College for their last double dual Orange Empire Conference meet of the season. Fullerton managed a victory over Santa Ana College 96-22, but fell to Riverside City College 107-40. FC wrapped up the OEC double dual season with an overall record of 3-3. This was a premier competition with many conference, SoCal, and State leaders in all of the events.

Fullerton began the day on the right foot with a season best in the 400 meter relay from Fanny Giron, Samantha Duong, Jasmine Williams, and Jenny Cadman running 51.45.

Andrea Mendez ran strong in the 1500M giving herself a big 28 second personal record (PR) as she finished in second place with 4:55.46.

Giron had her best race of the season dropping her 400 meter time to 56.77 ranking her second overall in Southern California and fourth in state. The race came down to the wire as Crystal Tejeda from RCC and Fanny battled down the last 100 meters to the finish line. Tejeda had the slight lean at the finish line with a 56.76 time.

Andrea Mendez took third with 1:02.84, and Jennifer Cadman came in fifth with a three second PR of 1:04.23.

The 100M Hurdles had an exciting finish with all of the ladies clustered at the finish line. FC's Williams was third overall and a click off her PR 15.56 as Lauren Henderson, RCC, inched herself to second place with a 15.51, and her teammate Jasmine Jones won the race in 15.38.

Duong was a second off of her best time of the season in the 400M hurdles running for second place with 1:05.18. Samantha's time in this event has her ranked third in SoCal and state. Teammate Jasmine Mendoza had her best race of the season running for third place in the same race posting a 1:09.08.

Julia Popick ran her first 5000 meters of the season on the track (12 and a half laps) with a winning time of 20:52.92.

The last race on the track was the 1600 meter relay. The gun went off and after the first lap OCC had a little advantage over the Hornets by 30 meters. Each runner kept us in it and each lap the Hornets were getting closer. The bell lap had OCC ahead by 20 meters. With 200 meters to go, anchor Giron, took the lead out of the final turn passing an OCC runner for a seven second improvement and season best time of 4:07.87 from Duong, Mendez, Williams, and Giron.

In the field events, Williams tied for second place in the high jump 4' 10" and Michelle Okoroike won the javelin with a PR toss of 91'2". Salena Torres picked up third place.

Amber Hernandez placed fifth in the hammer with a 104' 1" PR throw, and Marrisa Myers was a place behind Amber throwing her PR of 98' 8".
