WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: A CHAMP IS CROWNED AT THE OEC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Lady Hornets performed well at the OEC Championships at Orange Coast College last Friday with many athletes qualifying for the SoCal Regionals.

As a team, FC finished in fourth place with 50 points.

Samantha Duong knew she would qualify in her 400M Hurdle race, however she wanted to secure her titles as a back-to-back OEC Champion. She did it and ran for the win in 1:06.11. It was a close race as Taylor Sims - OCC came in second with 1:06.39 and third place was Hannah Heising - OCC 1:06.89. Teammate Jasmine Mendoza took the fourth place finish and gave herself a PR time for the season 1:08.55.

Samantha and Jasmine also ran the 100M Hurdles finishing fourth and fifth place running 16.38 and 17.45 respectively.

Jasmine Mendoza came back after her long hurdle race and ran the 200M with an effort of 27.94 picking up eighth place.

On the inside of the track, Cydney Chavers was the surprise in the field. She gave herself a personal record (PR) throw in the hammer of 118' 4" and claimed fourth place.

Teammate Amber Hernandez helped the team with finishing in eighth place for a 99' 7" effort.

In the Discus, Cydney Chavers gave herself a sixth place finish with an effort of 99' 7".

Madison Fitzpatrick was a factor in the discus as she gave herself a PR throw of 98' 11" for seventh place.

The following athletes qualified for the SoCal Regionals:

Cydney Chavers: Shot Put, Discus, Hammer
Samantha Duong: 100M Hurdles, 400M Hurdles, Javelin
Madison Fitzpatrick: Shot Put, Discus, Javelin
Jasmine Mendoza: 100M Hurdles, 400M Hurdles.
