WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: A WET BATTLE OF THE REGIONS

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: A WET BATTLE OF THE REGIONS

The Lady Hornets opened their 2017 season competing in the Battle of the Regions meet at Bakersfield College last Friday.

The colleges in attendance were Bakersfield, Canyons, Moorpark, Antelope Valley, Ventura, Modesto, Glendale, Allan Hancock, and Pasadena.

"I always like this meet as it is a good opener for the athletes to compete against other schools normally not in our conference", Hornet Head Coach Gina Bevec.

Fullerton finished in 8th place with 27 points, and had some great performances on the field to start the season.

Marianne Gourd finished in 5th place in the shot put putting up a 32' 5" throw. She claimed the exact spot in the discus event with a 94' 4" throw. Teammates Yessenia Gutierrex and Kailani Talag threw 30' 5.75" and 30' 1.5" respectively.

Marianne Gourd (99' 8") and Jacqueline Goodbeau (85' 9") went fourth and fifth place in the hammer event. Yessenia Gutierrez and Kailani Talag threw 76' 10" and 74' 10".

Kailani Talag put up a good number in the javelin 81' 4" for third place with the javelin. Jacqueline Goodbeau tossed her javelin 63' 2" and Yessenia Gutierrez went for a 60' 5" effort.

It was not a great day for the jumps with water being a big factor on the runway for the long jump. Shyleen Ramos and Daniela Juarez competed the best they could under extreme conditions.

With the track, halfway under water because of the steady rain, Liz Pean competed in the 100 meters with a 14.45 time and Jordyn Reese took seventh place in the 400 meters running 1:08.39.

Cassidy Hyenhuis competed in the middle-distance events. Her race was a splash as the runners were in water almost up to their ankles and ran 2:47.78 in the 800 meters and 1500 meters 5:42.45.

Up Next: The Hornets have a bye this week and will be back in action on February 24 in an Orange Empire Conference meet against Santa Ana and Orange Coast College.
