WOMEN'S TRACk & FIELD: OEC MEET #1

A bright and sunny day achieved many personal records for Hornet Track and Field. The Lady Hornets competed in their first OEC meet against Santa Ana College and Orange Coast College last Friday. The ladies earned their first win against the Dons 66-24 and lost to the Pirates 46-107 points.

The day on the track started with the 400 meter relay and a second place finish from Liz Pean, Jordyn Reese, Shyleen Ramos, and Daniela Juarez. Cassidy Nyenhuis won the 800 meters and came in strong for the win with an effort of 2:37.75 and took third in the 1500 meters 5:18.76. Jordyn Reese posted a good time in the 100 meters with 13.35 finish for third place. Liz Pean ran 13.90 as teammates Daniela Juarez 14.31 and Shyleen Ramos 14.68 followed slightly behind. All of these times are improvements for the ladies. Liz Pean ran in the 200 meters as a warm up for the 1600 meter relay to finish up the track events. The 1600 meter relay was a great ending to the day of training with a second place finish.

The throwing team won the hammer, discus and shot put events with their best season performances. Marianne Gourd was a double winner with the hammer 112'8" and shot put 34'10.5". Yessenia Gutierrez won the discus 93'2" and was third in the hammer 78'11" and javelin 78'0". Her shot put was just under her best effort with a throw of 29'8.25". Jacqueline Goodbeau threw her best efforts in the discus 90'6" for second place and clinched third in the shot put 30'6.5". Kailani Talag was strong in the shot put 32'9.75" for a season best and second place and followed in the same order for the javelin improving her mark to 86'2". She improved her discus mark to 81'6" to end her great day. The long jump made improvements for the ladies with a third place finish for Daniela Juarez 14'3.75" and Shyleen Ramos jumped her best with 13' .75" effort.

"All day good efforts popped up and good to see the support amongst the team", said Coach Bevec.

Up Next: The Hornets will be at Cal State Los Angeles this Friday, March 3rd. The Hammer and Discus events will be at Cerritos College. The events will continue on Saturday, March 4th at CSLA @ 8:00 am.
