WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: THE OCCIDENTAL INVITE

The Lady Hornets competed at the Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic last Friday and the team had some positive results.

"We wanted to give the sprinters and jumpers a bye week and take the rest of the group to Occidental. This is the time of the season that we will rest a few groups and get them ready for other future meets. I am happy to see the positive improvements with my athletes", Hornet Head Coach Gina Bevec.

Freshman, Cassidy Nyenhuis ran two great races as she challenged herself amongst other community colleges and four-year athletes. Her 800-meter time was almost a second off her best time as she ran 2:35.22 with confidence. A six-second improvement was shaved off her 1500 meter run for a 5:11.23 time.

Marianne Gourd, has hit a plateau with her throws 34' 11.75" shot put, 118' 10" hammer, and 94' 5" discus.

"It is hard to move your mark every week in the throws especially when we are changing a few things with technique. Throwers must be patient and believe in the process and at the right time efforts will be achieved. This is a talented freshman class of throwers and continue to watch them as the season unfolds", said Coach Bevec.

Yessenia was flirting with the 100-foot line in the discus and managed a 97' 11" PR as she tossed the javelin 71' 6". Kailani Talag gave herself a two-foot improvement in the javelin with a toss of 88' 4". Her shot put was just short of her regular throw and keeping the distance.

The Hornets are all working hard every day, staying positive, and knowing that they must keep grinding to see results. They constantly encourage each other to be at their very best.
