WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: OEC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Hornets finished up the Orange Empire Conference Championships with a fourth place finish claiming 46 points last Friday at Riverside City College.

"We arrived at RCC to get the job done and advance to SoCal Regional Championships", said Head Coach Gina Bevec.

The 400-meter relay came in third running a season best time of 52.46 from the following members: Liz Pean, Jorrdyn Reese, Shyleen Ramos, and Daniela Juarez.

For the individual portion of the meet, the top six places advanced to Southern California Regional Championships next week at Cerritos College. The first track event was a success and the theme to follow for the rest of the day for the Hornets. Jordyn Reese came up big with her personal record (PR) and a third place finish in the 100-meters with a time of 12.54. Reese also ran the 200 meters and was just a click off of her best time of the season with a finish of 26.78 for fourth place. Liz Pean was seventh in the 100M dash running a 13.46. Cassidy Nyenhuis was another important team scorer as she competed in the 1500M running 5:17.85 for seventh. One of the top-six finishers from another college was scratched out of the event giving Cassidy the chance to compete next weekend. Nyenhuis also cruised into sixth place with a 2:46.79 effort.

The 1600M relay team of Ramos, Reese, Juarez, and Nyenhuis finished in third place running 4:31.21, however that time did not meet the minimum qualification mark to advance.

On the inside of the track, the remaining field events left were the hammer and discus events. Marianne Gourd picked up a big PR in the hammer with a throw of 135' 6" grabbing the sixth place spot.

"My first throw felt effortless, and it started out the way I wanted that event to go", said Marianne Gourd.

In the discus, Jacqueline Goodbeau finished in seventh place and a PR throw of 104' 2" and Marianne Gourd was eighth to score a point for the team scores with 100' 4".

It is always a good day to be a Hornet and to show their team pride the Hornets saw their goals were achieved.
