WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: THE SOCAL PRELIMS

The Hornets competed in the Southern California Regional Prelims on Saturday at Cerritos College.

This round of prelims is the toughest as there are no more than 27 athletes in each events competing to advance to the SoCal Regional Championships the following week.

Standout Hornet Marianne Gourd had a personal record (PR) throw of 37' 1.25" in the shot put advancing her to the meet next week.

"I know I can throw farther and can hit the 40-foot mark", said Gourd.

Marianne is currently ranked seventh in that event. She competed in the hammer falling just short of qualifying landind in 20th place.

Kailani Talag had the javelin and shot put events to compete in. Her javelin mark was only a few inches off her best and ended up in 20th place overall.

"Her shot put was not her best of the season and fell short of qualifying however competed at her best and saw an improvement with her technique", said Hornet Head Coach Gina Bevec.

The 4000-meter relay team of Liz Pean, Jordyn Reese, Shyleen Ramos, and Daniela Juarez walked on to the track and did their best, however they did not qualify.

Shyleen Ramos, "I had fun, and it was great to get this far in the season".

Jordyne Reese was in the 100 and 200 meters events and ran a click off of her best times 12.86 and 27.34 efforts.

Cassidy Nyenhuis had been working hard on keeping her training healthy and ran the 1500 meters in 5:26.73. Even though that did not qualify her for next week, she had a good season and looks forward to next year.
