WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: BIG OEC WIN OVER SANTA ANA

The Lady Hornets hosted an Orange Empire Conference track and field meet last Friday having great success against the Santa Ana Dons. The Hornets outscored the Dons 82-23.

The 400 meter relay (Jade Crutchfield, Myrna Gillas, Madison Reese, Jordyn Reese) had run their best time of the season in 51. 25 and is ranked second in the Orange Empire Conference.  Jordyn Reese continued on with taking two seconds off her time in the 400 meters with a 1:05.46 and in the 200 meters took another second off with a 27.22 effort. The 1600 meter relay came in first with a time of 4:25.17 and the first time the squad ran this event this year from Shyleen Rramos, Myrna Gillas, Madison Reese, and Jordyn Reese

"There were 16 new personal best performances from the ladies and I am very happy for their improvements" said Head Coach Gina Bevec.

With the track running great times the field events were equally as good. The throws continued to show their strength in the field and Philliz Tu'avao had a five foot improvement and winning the shot put with a 37' 3.25" toss. This mark has her ranked in eighth place in SO CA competition.  Teammate Marian Gourd followed suit right behind her with her best throw of the season 36' 9.75". That mark lands her in 11 place overall in SoCal. Yessenia Gutierrez had a one foot improvement of 32' 5.5" and Kimberley Torres threw 22' 11.25" for her PR. 

Shyleen Ramos and Josephine Riese continue to inch their way to jumping their best with a first and second place victory with the long jump event.

Philliz Tu'avao won the discus with her best of the season and now ranked 9th in SoCal list with 119' 2".  Yessenia Gutierrez had a three foot improvement of 102' 1" and placed second.

Under rainy conditions on Thursday, the hammer event was held at Golden West College.  Kim Mataia had a PR with a throw of 99'10", which placed her second to Marianne Gourd who won the event. 

Up Next: The Hornets have a bye this week, but will be back in action for the Glendale Invitational April 6-7.
