WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: FREW OR DIE

In a needed Orange Empire Conference game, the Hornets pulled off a 3-2 victory at Golden West College on Friday led by FC sophomore Saylor Frew, who was named the 2019 CCCWVCA State Athlete of the Week.

The win helps Fullerton's run for a playoff spot as they now sit in fourth place in the OEC with a winning record of 10-5. The Rustler loss lands them in fifth place with a record of 7-8.

FC took a hit in a tightly contested first set losing 25-21, but they bounced back in the second winning it 25-20. In the third set, the Hornets made a clear-cut statement tinning big 25-13, but the Rustlers fought back in the fourth to win it 26-24. Fullerton was down 13-10 in the fifth and final set, and pulled out 5 unanswered points to take the match.

Saylor Frew had another big night slamming down 17 kills, had 18 digs, 4 blocks,  and 2 aces. Samaria Longstreet was also on point with 15 kills and 3 blocks. Mackenzie Kjenstad had 11 kills, 3 digs, and 2 blocks, while Faith Webb brought down 7 kills and had 16 digs. Karen Delgadillo had a busy night dishing out 48 assists and 11 digs. Priscilla Gutierrez led the team in digs with 24 in a winning effort. Hannah Tobin also had 11 digs.

Frew was honored this week, along with Lille Tuivailala of College of San Mateo, as the week 12 State Athletes of the Week as voted on by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA).
