W. VOLLEYBALL: BIG WIN WEDNESDAY

The Hornets upset No. 18 Golden West College at home Wednesday night 3-2.

After falling in four close matches 3-2 this season, the Hornets had a major breakthrough with a strong finish against one of the better teams in the Orange Empire Conference.

The Fullerton win lifted the team in the Orange Empire Conference standings to 3-3, while GWC suffers its second conference defeat (4-2).

The first set belonged to the Rustlers as they took an early 8-2 lead and then pushed forward to finish it 25-17.

In the second set, the Hornets did not back down grabbing a 10-8 lead before winning it in a close one 25-22.

Fullerton and Golden West went at it in the third set as both teams refused to give in stretching the game well past the 25-point mark. Having to win by two, neither team gave up, until Fullerton finally won 32-30.

Set four was all GWC as Fullerton fell behind early 18-7 and could not recover. The Rustlers won it 25-10. 

In the fifth and final set, the Hornets jumped on the Rustlers early with a 4-1 lead. They never let up holding the lead for the remainder taking the set and match 15-12.

Up Next: Fullerton (9-8 overall, 3-3 OEC) has a bye this Friday but will be back in action on Wednesday, October 13th when they host Santa Ana College for another OEC match at 6:00 pm.

McKenna Mokry had a busy night with 16 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks for Fullerton. Faith Webb was also very active with 15 kills, 15 digs, and a block. Hannah Wilmes also came up big with 12 kills, 15 digs, and 3 blocks. Alicia Isa Domingo pumped out 34 assists, 1 ace, and 10 digs. Hannah Tobin helped out with 29 digs and 2 assists.
