W. VOLLEYBALL: FC STUNS UNDEFEATED CYPRESS

The No. 22 in state Hornets knew they had a do-or-die game at home Wednesday night against No. 5 Cypress and came through it with a 3-2 stunning victory.

With the win, Fullerton ruined the Charger's 17-match win streak while staying relevant in the Orange Empire Conference standings with a 6-5 record. The Cypress loss puts the team at 10-1 in the OEC as they remain in first place with Orange Coast (9-2) and Irvine Valley (8-2) breathing down their neck.

FC came out in the first set snagging a 10-4 lead on Alexa Hauser's ace and then pushed it to 19-10 before winning it 25-20. In the second set, Fullerton hung close 10-8, but Cypress went on a 15-5 run to win it 25-13. Both teams came out punching in the third set as they went past the 25-point mark. McKena Mokry's kill sealed it 27-25 for the Hornet win. The fourth set was another battle but Cypress pulled it out 25-21. Tied 4-4 in the fifth and final set, Fullerton pulled away 8-4 thanks to Alexis Zander's left-handed kill. A muffed play at the net by the Chargers handed the Hornets the win and the upset at 15-9.
